Climate Week NYC – Part II

While the most significant contributions to the ongoing fight to adapt to a rapidly changing planet will primarily come in the form of large institutional changes, the impact of collective individual actions and sacrifices must not be understated in reaching climate goals.

In honor of Climate Week NYC, as the world gathers to showcase leading climate action and how we can all do more, we are highlighting some of our personal contributions to mitigating climate change.

Climate Change and Personal Accountability: Staff Spotlight

“At home, we’ve done our best to reduce our carbon footprint by opting to purchase 100% renewable energy from our local electric utility, and we’re in the process of getting solar for our roof, too.  We also consume almost no gasoline as a household – the car is all-electric, and the minivan is a plug-in hybrid. We’ve recently replaced all of our grass with native, drought-resistant plantings (which is especially important here in California). And perhaps most importantly, we teach our children to value biodiversity, protect the natural environment, and do what they can to help prevent climate change.”

– Adam Green, Senior Vice President, Business Development

Ren Gaffney, Climate Week NYC, climate change, energy storage, renewable energy, battery storage

“I vote for candidates and donate to causes that infuse sustainability into their core work. I also invest countless weekends into making my yard pollinator, wildlife, and waterway friendly by planting native and fruiting plants, omitting pesticides, and reducing street run-off into tributaries downhill from my house through river-smart gardens and hardscape.”

– Ren Gaffney, General Counsel

Matt Duffy, Climate Week NYC, climate change, energy storage, renewable energy, battery storage

“Prior to rejoining the corporate world in 2008, I spent five years developing sustainable communities.  In fact, my subdivision near Austin, TX was awarded ‘Sustainable Development of the Year’ by the city of Austin. These days, I ride my bike to the gym, rather than driving there. I drive a hybrid automobile and make sure that my kids and I recycle whatever is recyclable.”

Matt Duffy, Vice President, Business Development

Derek Longo, Climate Week NYC, climate change, energy storage, renewable energy, battery storage

“I remove trash from water and on the streets when I see it, do my best to prevent water waste, and avoid the use of plastics and other materials that can cause harm to the environment.”

– Derek Longo, Vice President, Project Development

Ruth Lind, Climate Week NYC, climate change, energy storage, renewable energy, battery storage

“I try to live a low-waste lifestyle purchasing only zero-waste cleaning supplies and household goods. In transitioning to my current apartment, I successfully completed a zero-waste move. Now settled in, I try to consume only local groceries, including purchases from Imperfect Foods and a local CSA.”

– Ruth Lind, Business Development Manager

The Importance of Renewable Energy

We see the transition to renewable energy as critical to mitigating the impacts of climate change. Energy storage is a critical component of that transition, enabling the integration of renewables on the grid.
